DESIGN STUDIO 6 | CONSTRUCTIONAL COMPOSITION explores the development of a 500+sq.m museum commemorating the Australian Bushfires of 2019-2020, commonly known as Black Summer. The site is the Binna Burra Lodge, located 45km from the Gold Coast. The focus for the studio is the development of a museum design based on narrative, journey and experience using the basis of the bushfire events to drive the design proposal.
Students undertake three assessments:
- 01 | Site Analysis + Concept – Students develop a series of critical analysis that form the basis for the design. Research includes the site and bushfire history, macro site location plan, micro site analysis of vegetation, buildings, circulation and climate. Basic design proposals are developed to include concept, precedents, and proposed program, circulation, spatial arrangement, massing and materials.
- 02 | Schematic Design – The design is developed provide a visual description of the design project’s ideas, qualities and physical dimensions. Projects move beyond concept to include proposed 1:200 or 1:500 plans, sections and materials.
- 03 | Design Development – A more considered, complete and detailed design proposal is developed to include 1:200 building plans, elevations and sections, 1:20 detailed sections, perspectives and spatial qualities.
03 | Design Development
