COMMUNICATIONS 2 introduces students to AutoCAD and Rhino and rendering techniques, as tools to communicate 2-dimensional modes of representation of 3-dimensional designs. Students work through three projects which build upon one another. Within each project, the object becomes more complex and their use of AutoCAD and Rhino is supplemented by short tutorial activities each week.
- 01 | Planes – Students take an artwork and abstract it by generating a hand-made, 3D model from “planes”. They then develop this idea through a series of orthographic and paraline drawings in AutoCAD with a presentation in Illustrator.
- 02 | Solids + Voids – The model is developed by extruding the plans into “solids” and adding voids in Rhino. Drawings are extracted and developed in AutoCAD and Illustrator.
- 03 | Stairs – A series of stairs are added and the form developed further.
