CONSTRUCTION AS ALCHEMY  focuses on how design ideas are translated into built form through the process of construction. Students learn about the various professionals and trades that are involved, how construction information is communicated in contract documents, and the structural principles and material properties that underpin the form and fabric of the built environment. Students undertake 3 small sets of working drawings:

  • 01 | Brick wall – Site analysis and installation of a 6 long brick wall (with direction changes, openings, patterns) within a children’s playground.
  • 02 | Timber deck – Addition of a 36sq.m deck to interact with the wall.
  • 03a | Steel roof structure – Addition of a steel roof to the deck and wall.
  • OR 03b | Seat detail – Addition of a multi-material seat to the deck and wall.
