Responsibilities: Liz was Project Manager for the Master Planning and Redevelopment of the existing Robertson Barracks. Liz’s role included development and co-ordination of Scoping and Brief documents, co-ordination of design consultants and stakeholders between Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide and Darwin, extensive stakeholder and user consultation, and ongoing presentation to Army HQ Infrastructure committees.

Project Description: Robertson Barracks is home to over 3,000 Defence personnel. In 2005 it was proposed to increase the personnel at the barracks by 10% across all units. The initial scope of this project was to undertake a Scoping Study and detailed consultation to ascertain the effect of this increase across facilities and infrastructure.

This was followed by development of a detailed Functional Design Brief, and Concept Design for infrastructure upgrades and facilities. A Detailed Business Case was developed in order to gain funding. Extensive value management successfully identified  an option to deliver a $100m optimal scope within a $50m budget.

The final project scope iof18 new buildings and 31 refurbishments included educational and training facilities, over 100 residential apartments, office buildings and headquarters, a fire station, specialist workshops, and vehicle shelters.

As a result of this project, many smaller projects were fast-tracked separately, including:

  • Defence, Robertson Tank Replacement  Facilities, Darwin ($4m)
  • Defence, Advanced Gunnery Training Simulator (AGTS), Darwin ($2m)
