The project for the semester is the analysis , redevelopment and redesign of a proposed multi-storey commercial building in project in Newstead, Brisbane. A preliminary proposal for a 3 storey podium and 6 storey tower in Newstead, Brisbane has been developed but requires considerable revision.
Students undertake three assessments:
- 01 | Due Diligence (week 1-3) – Work in groups of 3 to 4 to review the design in terms of: analysis of the local context, compliance with National Code of Compliance (NCC) and Australian Standards, consideration alternative frame strategies, and research of precedents for design aspirations and best practices of facades and general design.
- 02 | Sketch Design (weeks 4-8) – Work individually to prepare a sketch design proposal for the re-design of the facade and general spatial arrangement of a typical medium rise commercial building.
- 03 | Developed Design (weeks 9-14) – Prepare a detailed design proposal for the re-design of the facade and general spatial arrangment of a typical medium rise commercial building.
